Recap of 1/10/23 Proposal to the Folsom City Council

The Startup Folsom team had spent weeks preparing for the proposal to the Folsom City Council. The PowerPoint presentation itself went through several revisions. Our first snag was that when we sent our PowerPoint, to the City Clerk, she told us that she couldn’t add the presentation because the deadline to submit it was noon. I just sighed. This is a great metaphor working with the government. Simple things aren’t so simple. Not to be deterred, we made handouts for each council member so that they could follow along with the presentation. In addition to the Startup Folsom Presentation, we had several members of our community speaking on our behalf including Opeeka Founder Dr. Kate Cordell, Boomers Thriving Founder Mike Curtin, and PromptKrafter Cofounder Jacob Rangel. The recording of our presentations can be seen below.

Our take away is that trying to get funding from the City is going to be a long process and we have to be persistent. Our plan is to do a drip campaign where we will continually present at every City Council Meeting and have entrepreneurs speak to for Folsom to invest in their entrepreneurial environment.

We would appreciate your support at this upcoming council meeting. If you are a resident of Folsom or have a business in Folsom, we would like you to attend and tell the council that Folsom needs to invest in our startup ecosystem. Here’s information on the next meeting:

Date: Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Time: 6:30 pm

Location: Folsom City Hall, 50 Natoma Street, Folsom, CA 95630.

If you like to address the council personally, they will allow you to speak for 3 minutes. Just fill out a blue card at the beginning of the meeting and hand it to the City Clerk.

Before I end this blog, I would like to point out that we got coverage from local media including the Sacramento Business Journal and Capital Public Radio:
